  • Shayla Purifoy, Women's Council member and attorney with Memphis Area Legal
    Services' Domestic Violence unit, has been named the New Advocate of the
    Year by the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services. The award was presented
    at the recent statewide annual meeting of TALS at Paris Landing State Park.
    The New Advocate award honors affirmative, creative, effective advocacy
    (in litigation or other activities). It seeks to recognize those who use
    their legal skills in an active, creative way that produces outstanding
    benefits for individual clients and the communities in which they live.
    Shayla is a passionate advocate for MALS clients who also devotes hours of
    time to spreading awareness about domestic violence and working in community
    collaborations to increase services and outreach for victims.d
